Feast on fruits and fish found only in the Amazon, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the jungle at night from the deck of your boat as you Cruise  the Amazon with Brazil Adventure Tours.

The MY Tucano Amazon Cruise

The MY Tucano takes you for a 6-night Amazon Cruise from the city of Manaus, up the Rio Negro, around the islands of the freshwater Anavilhanas Archipelago, and downstream once again to the Lago Janauari Ecological Park and the Meeting of the Waters before returning to Manaus. The week-long schedule means that the cruise takes passengers further away from the city to more remote parts of the Amazon, where wildlife is abundant and the jungle appears to remmain untouched by human hand. There are also departures for the 4-night Amazon Cruise, please check Departure Dates or contact us for further details.

The motor yacht is a low berth vessel which allows passage in the shallower creeks and channels of the Amazon Rainforest, giving passengers a genuine feel for the sights, sounds and smells of the jungle. Smaller craft take passengers off the boat in small groups to travel between the trunks of the flooded forests during the high waters of March to July, and around the shallow lakes during low water periods.

With only 9 cabins on the outside of the boat and all air-conditioned, the MY Tucano offers a comfortable cruise with small groups and a friendly, personal service. Expeditions take passengers off the boat by launch to explore the Amazon waters and rainforest, with expert guides to help unlock the secrets of the greatest wilderness on earth.

Itinerary

Day 1
Over the Amazon Jungle to Manaus

Destination: Manaus

Friday. Your flight takes you over the huge green expanse of jungle and you arrive in Manaus, the city at the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. After transferring to your hotel, the rest of the day is free to relax and recover from your journey. You can enjoy your first taste of Amazon Cuisine, which makes use of the fruits and vegetables of the area, and also the abundant fish life in the Amazon River system. In the evening you may even get the opportunity to see a performance at the famous Manaus Opera House, the Teatro Amazonas.
Day 2
Amazon Wildlife Encounters

Destination: Manaus to Rio Negro

Saturday. After transferring to the pier, passengers board the Motor Yacht Tucano and embark upstream on the Rio Negro. The morning cruise takes you amongst the islands of the Anavilhanas Archipelago. The observation deck offers magnificent views of the tangle of vegetation bordering the largest freshwater archipelago in the world. By mid-afternoon the vessel enters a dense Amazon wilderness. Although wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, there is a good chance of spotting pink Amazon River dolphins and large numbers of exotic birds. In the late afternoon, you embark in the smaller craft to search for wildlife.
Day 3
Amazon Ecology

Destination: Anavilhanas Archipelago

Sunday. In the early morning you can board the launch boat to explore along the edge of the Amazon Rainforest. Howler Monkeys bark through the dawn and are often visible. Toucans and macaws add splashes of colour as they screech high in the trees to welcome every new day. After breakfast you can hike in the Amazon Rainforest with your expert local guide to understand a little more about the ecology of the area. After returning for lunch, the MY Tucano moves on, with a swimming stop along the way. In the late afternoon you explore the edges of the rainforest by launch, and listen to the sunset chorus of birds and amphibians.
Day 4
Night-Time Knowledge

Destination: Rio Jauaperi

Monday. After pre- and post-breakfast excursions, the MY Tucano navigates along the heavily forested shore, scouting for wildlife. It may be possible to visit the home of a local resident, carved out of the trees. In the early afternoon the cruise passes by an extraordinary river called the Rio Jauaperi. This is a unique environment with the rainforest known as Varzea. We will scout along the shoreline for some of the extraordinary creatures found only in this ecosystem. Weather permitting, a night-time excursion takes you to experience the spooky darkness of the Amazon Rainforest, with the shining eyes of a million nocturnal creatures!
Day 5
Amazon Jungle Hiking

Destination: Rio Negro

Tuesday. The MY Tucano departs the Rio Jauaperi and for the next two days proceed downstream on the Rio Negro, exploring a new collection of Amazon Rainforest habitats along the way. During the daytime, excursions by launch and walks in the rainforest, and night-time safaris for nocturnal wildlife. All the while, you can enjoy the magnificent rainforest vistas and the spectacular trees themselves. There is also the opportunity to swim in the clear waters of the Amazon River system! The glide through the starry darkness brings a good chance to enjoy a caipirinha, the cocktail made from sugar-cane spirit which is the national drink of Brazil.
Day 6
Cruising on The Amazon River

Destination: Novo Airao

Wednesday. After a walk in the rainforest, the MY Tucano crosses to explore the western bank of the Rio Negro. The main stop is at the substantial boat-building village of Novo Airao. A walk through the streets of the village allows you to marvel at the local culture, which appears to have changed little since the 19th Century. In the evening, the vessel continues downstream to arrive at daybreak near the confluence of the Rio Negro with the Rio Solimoes. Only after these two giant tributaries meet is the mighty river known as The Amazon River for the rest of the 1,500km journey to the Mouth of the Amazon and the Atlantic Ocean.
Day 7
The Meeting of the Waters

Destination: Meeting of the Waters

Thursday. The morning brings exploration of the Lago Janauari Ecological Park, with excellent observation of wildlife and the giant Victoria Regina water lillies. Lunch is at the Meeting of the Waters, a natural phenomenon that occurs when two huge tributaries of the Amazon, the dark waters of the Rio Negro and the brown waters of the Rio Solimoes, meet but don\\\'t mix for miles in the centre of the river. Different nutrients mean differences in temperature, density and flow speed. In the afternoon you scout hidden creeks to observe more beautiful and bizarre Amazon creatures before a final excursion looking for nocturnal wildlife.
Day 8
Home from the Amazon

Destination: Amazon River to Manaus & Away

Friday. The ship returns to Manaus in the morning where your cruise ends. After arriving you will be taken on a tour of the famous Manaus Theatre, the Adolfo Lisbao Municipal Market, and the Floating Dock. The opulent theater is the symbol of the city, and was built on the back of the rubber boom that made the wealth of Manaus, while the market showcases an incredible array of Amazon produce from rainforest and river. Afterwards you transfer to the airport for your flight home or onwards. Your MY Tucano Amazon Cruise can also be combined with any of our other fantastic destinations in Brazil such as the Pantanal, Rio de Janeiro and Iguazu Falls.
