Itinerary

Day 1
Conquered by Mount Roraima

Destination: Mount Roraima to Santa Elena de Uairen

This extension to the Mount Roraima Trek or Helicopter Tour takes you into the heart of the Gran Sabana to visit the highest waterfall in the world, Angel Falls. The chain of flat-topped tepuy mountains continues from Roraima on the northern edges of the Amazon and up through the Canaima National Park further into Venezuela. The area around the base of Angel Falls is remote territory, and difficult to access. After leaving Roraima, you must begin the journey to Canaima with a night in Santa Elena close to the border. After arriving at around 3pm, the rest of the afternoon and evening are free to relax and recuperate after your Mount Roraima Trek, and prepare for your visit to Angel Falls.
Day 2
The Canaima Lagoon

Destination: Santa Elena de Uairen to Canaima

Around 8:30am you begin the journey to Canaima, the small town that is the base for expeditions to Angel Falls. After being received by your local guide and taken to your simple lodgings in the park. The afternoon brings a tour by the regional curiara boats around the lagoons and falls of the Canaima Lagoon. Ucaima, Golondrina, Wadaima and El Salto Hacha are observed before you continue to the island of Isla Anatoliy for a 20min hike to Sapo and Sapito Falls. A wonderful afternoon of ecotourism should put you in the mood for the journey up the canyon to the base of Angel Falls. The late afternoon is free to enjoy the sunset scenery of lagoon and tepuy.
Day 3
Up the Canyon to Angel Falls

Destination: Canaima to Angel Falls Camp

After breakfast, the curiara takes you up the Rio Carrao, with the marvellous scenery and rock formations of Ayuantepuy, the mountain from which Angel Falls drops. A 4-5 hour journey upriver to Isla Ratoncito, the island of the little rat! After leaving baggage at the campsite, an hour of hiking through the rainforest takes you to the Mirador Laime, the spot with the most photogenic views below Angel Falls. The highest falls on earth drops vertically for 979m from the top of the mountain to the canyon, with another 400m drop in cascades and rapids down the rocks of the Rio Gauja and further down the canyon to the Rio Churun. You sleep in hammocks at the forest camp.
Day 4
Last Look at Angel Falls

Destination: Angel Falls Camp to Canaima & Boa Vista

After breakfast in the forest and final looks at Angel Falls you return to Canaima, some 4 hours downstream by curiara. Your flight over the forest and savannah to Santa Elena de Uairén arrives around midday. After a break for lunch in town (not included), you continue back over the border to Brazil, arriving in Boa Vista around 4pm. There are options for leaving Boa Vista by plane for Manaus the same evening or you can stay for an extra night in the city if you prefer and continue your journey away next day. This extension trip to Angel Falls is usually combined with the Mt Roraima Trek but can also be included together with our other Amazon options.
