2014 Carnaval Season Begins in Brazil

The 2014 Carnaval Season gets underway in Rio de Janeiro and the rest of Brazil, with the build-up to the long weekend beginning on 28 February. Rehearsals for the bands and the dancers, costume preparations and float construction have been underway since... the end of the 2013 Carnaval. As we move into January 2014, then things get serious!

Rehearsals for the Rio de Janeiro Carnaval Parade continue at samba schools such as Mangueira, Beija-Flor and Portela in the city, and can be attended by anyone.

The Rio Street Carnaval takes place mainly across three weekends, 14-16 February, 21-23 February and also during the main holiday weekend of 28 February to 5 March.

The main Rio de Janeiro Carnaval Parades take place on Sunday 2 March and Monday 3 March, going from 9pm through until dawn at the Sambodromo venue close to the city centre. All entrance tickets come with transport included from the hotel areas of Copacabana and Ipanema.

The Carnaval Champions Parade celebrates the best samba schools of 2014, as the winners and runners-up parade again on the following Saturday, 8 March 2014.

It isn't too late to book your Carnaval trip, and you can also participate in the Carnaval as well if you like! People from all over the world put on a crazy costume and dance their way down the Sambodromo with hundreds of other 'pipocas' (popcorn), thousands of people watching from the stands, and millions watching on television in Brazil and across the world. Contact us for further Carnaval details!
