Pantanal Wetlands Lodges

Enter the Pantanal Wetlands from one of our Pantanal Lodges. Take 4x4 vehicles, horses, bikes and trails to explore the savannah and waterways of this wilderness for the finest wildlife viewing in South America. Photograph caiman and capybara as they cool in the waters, often together. Watch wheeling flocks of parakeets, macaws, parrots and hundreds more species as they fly noisily overhead. Join the giant otters in fishing for piranha, pacu and dourado, but maybe leave the anteaters to dine alone. Take the best chance to see the most beautiful predators on the continent while on night safaris, with puma, ocelot and the magnificent jaguar spotted more here than anywhere else. Enjoy the most colourful skies at sunrise and sunset of every day, and the starriest of starry nights while staying at a Pantanal Lodge with Brazil Adventure Tours.

Itinerary

Day 1
Into the Pantanal Wetlands

Destination: Cuiaba to SouthWild Pantanal Lodge

After flying to Cuiabá, the capital of Mato Grosso state in Brazil, you will be picked up at the airport for the 2-3 hour drive to SouthWild Pantanal Lodge close to Pocone in the Northern Pantanal. Lunch is taken en route, with arrival in the early evening. From the raised dirt roads it is easy to spot wildlife on the surrounding savannah and in the waters. The largest rodent in the world, the capybara, is especially visible, as are caiman alligators, the largest reptile in South America. After settling in, you can enjoy a Pantanal dinner and then hear all about the activities planned for the next day. These depend on the season, the weather conditions and recent wildlife sightings around the lodge.
Day 2
The Largest Wetlands in the World

Destination: SouthWild Pantanal Lodge

SouthWild Pantanal Lodge was set up by expert naturalists from around the world, and your guides are all experts too. The activities at the lodge generally take place early in the morning and then after a break for lunch, avoiding the heat of the Pantanal days. Possibilities usually include boat rides along the rivers, creeks and channels of the area, sometimes in canoes which are poled through the shallow waters, giving closer and quieter access to wildlife. Forest hikes also allow you to feel the Pantanal for yourselves, and viewing towers give you birdseye views across the wetlands and savannah. Horse-riding as well is a popular activity, with four wheels also taking you out at night.
Day 3
Wildlife in the Pantanal

Destination: SouthWild Pantanal Lodge

The Pantanal boasts the highest concentration of fauna on the planet with 698 bird species, 80 mammals, 260 fish species and 50 reptiles catalogued until now. Some are rare, many are numerous. SouthWild Pantanal Lodge offers the best chance to see the giant otter, with a whole family living close by. Tapirs and giant anteaters are creatures that you can also hope to see. The big cats such as the puma and ocelot need a little more luck, while the chances to see the rare and elusive jaguar can be increased with a full day extra trip another 145km down the Transpantaneira to the Tres Irmaos River. The Jaguar Flotel there is located in Brazil's foremost Jaguar Hotspot.
Day 4
Flying Away from the Pantanal

Destination: SouthWild Pantanal Lodge to Cuiaba & Away

With the lodge being set up by expert naturalists, and with conservation preservation programmes for the Pantanal creatures and habitat, you can be sure that your time at SouthWild Pantanal Lodge will be as interesting as it will be educational. Your days are full of wildlife and your nights full of Pantaneiro hospitality. On your final morning, you leave the Santa Tereza Ranch to return to Cuiaba, with more photo opportunities along the way. On arrival at the airport in Cuiaba, you catch your flight away from the Pantanal. Connections can be made for international flights from Brasilia, Manaus and Sao Paulo, or you can also combine your trip to SouthWild with some days in the Amazon Jungle.
